This year seems to be a series of “Firsts” for the Association
On Friday 28th July we played at Merlin Golf Club for the first time – apart from 1 drizzly shower and a fresh breeze the weather was kind to us.
It was great to see our Captain RTZ there watching everyone teeing off for the start of their round. He is walking much better and hopefully he will be back playing soon. Thank you to the assistant secretary, Fred Grist, who ran the event getting “bloodied” for Captain’s Day.
The day belonged to one person – John Frewer from West Cornwall.
After a shaky first four holes with his partner Paul Tovey John burst into life on the 5th, which happened to be the nearest the pin hole, achieving his first (that word again) hole-in-one for 5pts! and scooping the 2s pot as moo-one else got a 2.
Both John & Paul played very well after that and came in with 44pts to win the President’s Shield.
Second wee Brian Pound & Allan Evans with 41pts and 3rd Alan Price & Kelvin Searle on count back.
