Spring Shield

On Monday 28th April  40 CSGA members  played for the Spring Shield at The Point in absolutely beautiful weather, with the  course in pristine conditions.
 
There was quite a stiff breeze into one’s face on the first two holes coupled with the very long 3rd hole any team starting well would be at an advantage and this showed by only one team scoring above par on the front nine holes.
 
This did not bode well for the second nine holes being longer of than the front nine. However, 10 teams scored par or better on the back nine. 8 teams scored par or better overall today and four teams scored 38 points and a count-back would decide the winners. Missing out on the prizes despite scoring the best score of the day went to Colin Marshall and Mike Page from St Mellion who only managed 21 pts on the back nine. This left three teams who scored 22 pts on the back nine and this would go down to the back six. In third place were Andrew Cobner and Clive Hawke from Falmouth with 13 pts on the back six. Second place went to Keith Abbott and Tony Hurley from St Mellion with a back six of 14 pts.  The Spring Shield winners were Brian Pound and Allan Evans from St Mellion with a back six of 17 pts which included three birdies on 16, 17 and 18. The birdie on 16 was the highlight of the day, a topped shot 30 yds off the tee, ran down the hill on the cut grass pathway onto the green some 12 feet from the pin and of course the putt was holed for a two. There was however no mistake with a superb putt on 17 for a birdie 4 and four points followed by a magnificent second shot to 18” on hole 18 for the third birdie on the bounce. 
 
The pot for a two was shared by Brian Pound, Mike Page, Brian Crichton and Chris Stark. Nearest the Pin was won by Mike Page.
 
 
LAST CALL FOR COUNTY MATCHES SELECTION.
The next fixture is the county match against Devon at China Fleet on the 12th of May and the return match against Devon on the 19th of May at Teignmouth. Any member wishing to be selected whether a single or a pair please contact me by the end of this coming weekend. You will get selected for at least one game.

County Matches

The annual county matches against Devon take place on
Monday 12 May @ChinaFleet
Monday 19 May @Teignmouth

Anyone wishing to be considered for selection for either or both matches is asked to give their name to the Secretary.

WHS Update

WHS have made changes to the Handicapping system by adding (Course Rating – Course Par) to the current Course Handicap!
This change will affect lower handicap golfers more than higher ones.
It is now possible to submit a 4BBB score for handicap under certain conditions.
There is also a change to the score recorded for a hole not played.
